The Gift of Letting Go: Receiving

Writer's picture: Allison RoseAllison Rose

Hi Friends!

In fact, yoga nidra a practice of letting go. A practice of surrender. Letting be.

But here's the thing. It's not just about letting go. Yoga nidra is also about being open to receive. While this might feel like the opposite of letting go, being open to receiving is actually the gift of letting go! Or as my mom often says, "Nature does not like a vacuum."

Most simply, when we lie down to rest in yoga nidra, we are indeed opening ourselves to receive the many gifts of stillness and healing rest including better sleep, improved mood and well-being, and greater resiliency (just to name a few!)

In my experience, however, yoga nidra does something even more. In the restful state of yoga nidra, my heart space softens and my intuitive self appears. I hear the quiet whisper of faith. "All is ok. Allow yourself to receive the many blessings of this life."

Whether it's a holiday gift, a hug from a loved one, or a smile from a stranger on the street, the openness to receive is a gift. And just like letting go, it's a skill that can be strengthened with yoga nidra and other contemplative practices such as meditation and prayer.

Why be open to receiving? Because you're worthy of all the gifts coming your way.

With gratitude, Allison
